Longforgan - 2004
My good lady Lindsey I have spent the Easter weekend at the Coaching Inn,
Longforgan and I have to give it the thumbs up. Good accommodation, secure parking outside your room, good food, brilliant beer, oh, and some ace riding roads to play with. And all at a most reasonable price. And if your very lucky Alastair (the Landlord) will take you for a guided tour round some of the local roads.
Like most bikers I usually head for the west coast of Scotland but this area
is also well worth a visit.

Newton Mill Camping site - 2004
A campsite that I use regularly in summer is just a few miles west of Bath, towards Bristol. It is called Newton Mill Camping site as I recall. They have a separate 'paddock' for cyclists/ motorcyclist/ walkers. This particular field is reached by a small wooden bridge over a stream, so cars cannot access it.
There are separate areas for car drivers, caravanners etc etc. Toilet and shower facilities are the best I have ever seen in uk, and that is why I go back each summer for at least one weekend. [And I have stayed in many French sites over the years, I know what I am judging against]. Furthermore it has a decent bar, serving pub meals in the evening, and the kitchen re-opens in the morning to cook full breakfasts if you wish. There is shade to camp under, but bear in mind the stream, and whether the water trickle will keep you awake if you are a light sleeper.
The campsite also benefits from being very close to the City Centre, so a £1 bus ride buys you the choice of bars, restaurants, cinema, museums etc. A taxi back after hours will cost about £5.
By far the best camp site I have ever stayed at in the Uk.
Regards
Alistair

Roundhills - 2006
I am french, and was going riding UK last summer (august 2006, under pouring rain...)
I stopped in 2 UK campsites:
- Roundhill near Bath: Excellent camping, very good standard, but has nothing to do in your list. I was the only one with a bike, and the separate area (by the wodden little bridge) is not specially for bikers, but for anyone who doesn't have a car/camper. 16 quid a night= not cheap.
- Beaulieu campsite: No showers but cubicles! For 10 quid, it's not convenient. The bikers'area is just a field without any accomodation. Not a bikers's campsite.
So i was a bit dissapointed.
I know in France "Route 99", and this is exactely what I expect from a bikers' place. No cars allowed, good showers and food, nice people, and a band's stage for rock events. All for a decent price.
Mathieu
Sorry Mathieu but the UK does not have any campsites like the true motocamps in Europe.
