Groenedijk Motorcycle Loft Hotel - May 2003
Went to stop for a night at the Groenedijk Motorcycle Loft Hotel around
the middle of May of this year (2003) but found it not to be open at
that time. If I recall rightly it is open from around the end of May
for the Summer months then closes again. When the two of us arrived
at the hotel on our bikes it was pouring down but the owner came out,
unlocked the security gate and let us in. He then phoned a friend in
Ostend who runs a B&B and got us fixed up there at a discounted
price. His friend allowed us to park our bikes in his garage for security.
Friendly and helpful on all counts.
The hotel is approached down a long lane (tarred surface) which appears
to be a cycle way and not a road. Well signposted to get to the lane.
Large secure parking area with parking of bikes available inside the
centre of the hotel. The hotel is basically two large halls, one with
the food area, bar and cafe for socialising etc whilst the other has
the rooms around the inner walls with bikes parked in the middle. Interesting
decor. No cars etc allowed to stay, only bikes and trikes.
Having seen the place and also talked to the owner would I like to stop
there - answer is definitely.

Camping International - 2004
Camping International is situated close to the three-border point of Belgium,
Germany and Luxembourg. It is quite a big campsite with about 50 season
places and 150 tourplaces. In front of the entrance of the campsite is
a big field for groups such as scouts or motor clubs.
Along the campsite runs the river “Our” where you can bath
(it isn’t deep enough to swim) or where you can try to catch a trout.
Further to the back of the campsite is “the nature-valley”.
Actually it is an 800 meters (0,5 mile) nature trail along a gravel-road
on three sides of a tree-covered hill. On both sides of the road you can
place your tent. Most people use tents to camp in the valley, only rarely
do you see a camper or caravan. If you place your tent in the back of
the valley, you have to walk for about 900 meters (0,55 mile) to take
a shower or to have a shit. You can always park your motorbike next to
your tent. The Dutch owner is always prepared to lend you a BBQ, which
you can use to make a small fire!
There are not many toilets and showers, but waiting times are limited
and the toilets are always clean because they clean them a few times a
day.
They even have a restaurant where you can go from 9 o’clock in the
morning for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a Belguim beer! Till 7 p.m. you
can order fresh bread (or pie etc.) for the next day. Also there is a
very small shop, where you can get some forgotten groceries.
At a distance of approxematly 3 miles, in Luxembourg, you can buy gas,
tabacco and booze for nice, low-taxed prices! Touring on your bike is
a must in the surrounding of this campsite. The roads in Luxembourg are
especially very good.
Camping International ligt vlak bij het drielandenpunt van Belgie, Duitsland en Luxemburg. Het is een redelijk grote camping met ongeveer 50 vaste plaatsen, 150 toerplaatsen en voor de ingang van de camping nog een groot veld voor groepen. Scouting groepen of motorclubs maken wel eens gebruik van dit veld.
Langs het campingterrein loopt de rivier “Our”, waarin je kunt poedelen en vissen. Verder naar achteren op het camping terrein bevind zich het “natuurdal”. Het langgerekte dal is aan 3 zijden afgeschermd met beboste heuvels. Eigenlijk is het een 800 meter lange gravelweg waarlangs je aan beide zijden een plaatsje kunt zoeken. In dit dal staan meestal tenten en af en toe een verdwaalde camper of caravan. Het nadeel van het dal is, dat je ver van de toiletten af staat. Als je achter in het dal staat, is het snel 900 meter lopen. Je motor mag uiteraard altijd bij je tent worden geparkeerd. En wat niet onbelangrijk is: bij de Hollandse eigenaar kan je altijd wel een BBQ lenen, waarin je lekker fikkie kan stoken naast je tent! In het hoogseizoen kan het campingterrein nog wel eens redelijk vol staan.
Voor zo een grote camping is er niet zoveel sanitair. Maar ondanks dat, hoef je bijna nooit te wachten en tref je nooit een smerig toilet aan want het sanitair wordt meerdere malen per dag schoongemaakt.
Er is ook een restaurant waar je vanaf ’s ochtends 9 uur terecht kan voor ontbijt, lunch en diner. Als je ’s avonds besteld, kan je de volgende ochtend naast het restaurant, in het piepkleine winkeltje, verse broodjes e.d. afhalen. Hier kan je ook wat vergeten boodschappen halen. Op 5 kilometer afstand, in Luxemburg, kan je erg goedkoop zaken als benzine, tabak en alcohol aanschaffen. In de omgeving kan je prachtig toeren. Vooral in Luxemburg zijn de wegen erg goed en mooi.
